2001 NJSIAA/Bob's Store District I Team Champions - Phillipsburg Phillipsburg won the team title easily, accumulating 260 points while West Morris finished in the runnerup slot with 108 points. North Warren edged Belvidere 105-90.5 for third place. It was the ninth straight District I title for the Stateliners. Six Phillipsburg grapplers repeated and no other team had a repeat champion. Seniors Dale Rissmiller at 171-pounds and Craig Kempinski at 189 pounds defended their titles along with a quartet of sophomores in Trevor Duddy (112), Justin Koeller (130), Mike Fania (140) and Dave Post (145). The entire lineup of 14 Stateliners advanced to the Region I tournament. North Warren's Joe Casella won the Outstanding Wrestler Award after he decked Phillipsburg's Derek Schisler with 29 seconds remaining in the 160-pound title bout. Casella transferred to North Warren from Blair Academy and finished the tourney sporting a 13-1 overall record. West Morris, which finished seventh out of eight teams last year, made the jump to second place in the team standings. Delaware Valley, last year's runnerup, was moved out of District I into District XVII.
